::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: brain!
4
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Have you here, Lauren?
5
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Thank you, Jill, so much for having me. I'm absolutely thrilled and already having fun talking with you.
6
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yeah.
7
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: And and you're in a great place right now, and I appreciate you staying up till 9 30 to have this conversation with me.
8
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Totally my pleasure. I'm very, very happy to be here.
9
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Alright. So I'm gonna ask you the big question, are you ready.
10
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I'm ready.
11
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: What's the most significant thing in your opinion, as individuals, we can do to make an impact on how the world is going.
12
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: If you ask me this a different day, I will have a different answer. But today my answer is to stop measuring success by material things, and
13
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: begin to measure it by the amount of love and compassion, and kindness and joy
14
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: you have in your life.
15
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I am. If if I could go on just a little bit longer here. This is a significant day in Italy. It's their Independence Day.
16
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Which came about at the end of World War 2. So it's young. Their their freedom is still young and fresh, and
17
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: it was also when women 1st were able to vote, and I think that every single citizen of Bologna was out on the streets today. It was
18
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: jam packed every surface, I mean
19
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: just jam packed and singing at the top of their lungs and jumping up and down, and it was. I usually don't like to be in big crowds, like people rushing to work, and things like that, just like, get me out of here! And I loved every second of it. It was just so full of joy
20
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and celebration, and if we had more moments like that that represented what success means.
21
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: World would switch itself around pretty quickly.
22
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I think that's very true. I was listening to somebody a while back, and they were talking about ideas for giving gifts in terms of giving experiences rather than things
23
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: which I think kind of blends into what
24
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: the point that you're making that experiences are are far more valuable to us as human beings than stuff.
25
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah.
26
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: yeah, I agree. And and the second layer of that is really getting to know one another and knowing what someone really wants, I mean, what what if you
27
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: gave an afternoon of babysitting to your friend, who just wanted an afternoon to herself?
28
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I mean, what a gift, you know, and a small thing, a few hours of your time, but
29
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: what she can do with that free time on her own to do whatever she wants.
30
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: To reconnect with herself, and often, you know.
31
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I'm going to travel in a different direction here for just a minute, but it used to be that we lived in communities, and we all knew each other. And you raised your kids. But
32
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: you know, if your kids were misbehaving, the person down the street is going to discipline them just as fast as you you will, or you will do the same for their kids that are playing in your yard
33
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: houses were open, moms were engaged. They helped each other. And you know, if you needed an afternoon off, somebody on the street was going to take your kids in and give you a break.
34
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: But now it's like everybody has to be the best at everything. I have to be the best mom and the best girlfriend, and the best wife, and the best business person, and the best everything. And it's just so exhausting
35
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: because nobody is all of that.
36
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: And the 80 s. Were the worst for that. I think young women in the eighties. It was really tough.
37
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: because you were expected to be everything for everybody, and you know it didn't matter what you were feeling, or your opinions or your thoughts. You just had to do it.
38
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: And those of us who are in the twenties in the eighties got that imprinted on us, and are, you know, many of us are still trying to shed that and trying to figure out a different way. And that's that's what my work is all about. So
39
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Oh, I guess I should wait for a question.
40
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Tell us about it. We're just having a conversation.
41
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I've got you.
42
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Just hand on me to ask questions.
43
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: So I will be turning 60 in August on my next birthday, and last year I decided to sell or give away everything and begin traveling the world and just seeing all of the things that I want to see, and having the experiences, and mainly to inform my work, because I lived as a hermit in a cabin in the mountains for 10 years before that.
44
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: And you know I was building this business and doing this work with women and and people women and doing this business with people.
45
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: usually women.
46
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Okay.
47
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: That sounded like I was implying that men aren't people.
48
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: or that women aren't, or something like that. But it it began to be really clear to me that I was getting out of touch. I was living in this world that was so perfect because there was. There were, you know, when there aren't other humans around, your challenges are much less. It's very easy to be serene. And zen when you live with dogs and cats and squirrels and trees right? So I decided to go out on this this adventure around the globe to see how women are
49
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: connecting with themselves and connecting with spirit and connecting with one another and engaging with life. And, you know, trying to find the magic
50
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and exploring the ways that are lost because we came in, and rubber stamped everything with the way we
51
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: elite white Christian people decided the world should be
52
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: not not to. I really tried hard not to disrespect any faith, path, or anything like that. But it's just a fact that colonization happens everywhere, and the indigenous people and their traditions are the ones that suffer. And I.
53
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Oh, for sure!
54
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, there's so much wisdom in those ancient teachings.
55
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and that's part of what I'm exploring.
56
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: But the root of my message is that not. Every woman wants to sell everything and travel the world.
57
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: So my version of freedom doesn't look like everyone's. But every woman has
58
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: her version of of freedom of being able to be fully herself.
59
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: do the things that she wants to do, and express herself the way that she feels called to, and
60
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: that's my my heart. Joy is helping her find that path.
61
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and fall back in love with her body, and.
62
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: you know, have the confidence and the courage to go after the things that that she wants, and to stand up and ask for
63
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: life to give her her heart's desire. So.
64
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I love that. I love that for women, because especially women in our age group that
65
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: but went through a time where we were told that we were supposed to look a certain way, and that way was generally
66
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: like little boys.
67
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Full-grown women were expected to look like young men.
68
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I know it sounds weird, but the the whole twiggy thing. You didn't have a body. You were just
69
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: if you had boobs that they they were usually implanted in you because you had no body fat and
70
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: and expected to do all the things.
71
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: And it was just not a. It's not a healthy way to to move into womanhood.
72
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: and there were a lot of women who were just like told not to have children and not to embrace being a parent. And it's not that being a parent or being a mother is like the be all and end all for women, because it's not. I know a lot of women who never wanted to have children, and they didn't, and they have experienced amazing lives. But the whole idea of you have to conform. You have to like.
73
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: you have to have a mission, and you have to know what it is when you're 20.
74
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Is this just like, why.
75
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: why did we do that to these people. And then, as you, we've aged, and we have developed bodies, and our bodies are, you know, lots of different shapes, and
76
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: they're healthy bodies. I mean, I have perfectly healthy body and.
77
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: They're healthy bodies. But a lot of us. Yeah, that. So that that's a whole other subject. But yeah, being asked to force our bodies into some ideal of the standard of beauty that's
78
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: popular at the time, right? And getting butt implants or.
79
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Or their lip thing, or you know, just like all of these things that women have done to their bodies, to mutilate them, to make them fit some standard of look that you know it's like, why.
80
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, I I was in that trap. So up until
81
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: up until my late forties, I was still.
82
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: you know, dieting. And well, you know, I actually kind of
83
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: fell into a healthier lifestyle, as far as food goes, kind of happily by accident, but still critical of my body, still trying to make it into a certain shape a certain size. I you know I had plastic surgery in my thirties, and you know a whole lifetime of
84
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: not being friends with this magical
85
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: suit that I get to wear around on the earth.
86
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yeah. And I was laughing with my sister the other day about, you know, trying to get back to some ideal weight that we were when we were really young. She's like, well, yeah, I want to get back to one pound 6 ounces.
87
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Why not? It's an arbitrary number, just like whatever that number was that you weren't happy with at the time, anyway, when you were in your twenties. This is like
88
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: just crazy.
89
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, yeah. And so that so many things that so many arbitrary outside of us, factors that we use to judge our worth, to judge our beauty, to judge ourselves in a thousand different ways, that that have no validity, and it coming back to the truth that we are innately worthy and sovereign and amazing and brilliant each and every one of us. That's
90
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: that's that's that's my answer to how we have the biggest impact on the world is for all women to be empowered.
91
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yeah, and to love themselves, and to just be who they are. If you're loud and brash, be loud and brash, if you're quiet and withdrawn. Be quiet and withdrawn
92
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: if you're like.
93
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: if you want to help people help people. But if you feel like you have to help people
94
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: stop it.
95
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: It is
96
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: so obligations and responsibilities and boxes that we try to fit ourselves in our whole lives, and at some point it almost becomes that we can't even tell we're like I don't even I don't even know which parts of myself I lost and abandoned in favor of trying to be this. And so it's a it's. It's kind of a battle. It's kind of a struggle to unshovel and get down through all of those layers of
97
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: society that we've put on top of ourselves and get back to the heart of who we are. But it's a journey that's so worth it.
98
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: And yeah, and and yeah, it's it's what I want. It's what I want for all of us.
99
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: So how did you start the traveling portion of your experience? You started to talk about that a little bit. There was a point where you were living on your own. What precipitated the going out and living by yourself.
100
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Well, so
101
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: okay, let's see, let's see if I can, how quickly I can sum up my life as an early teen. I was in love with God and the Church, and wanted to be a missionary as a late teen I got different messages. Oh, you're a sinner! Oh, your body's bad. Oh, your desire for sex and experimentation and life is bad, and oh, your makeup is going to make somebody lust. And so I got it into my head that I wasn't worthy of God. So I went off and lived the next few decades of my life.
102
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: spiritless and disconnected, and feeling unworthy. And you know, doing all the things
103
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: numbing with drugs and alcohol, not blah blah blah blah
104
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: And when I was 42, I had an accidental pregnancy which I was actually happy about, because I thought that
105
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: that it's life didn't work out, that I'm going to have kids. But maybe but I had a miscarriage, and so that was kind of a
106
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: yet another self-sabotage crash and burn point in my life. I lost my cushy job because I had a dui
107
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: so I sold everything. Do you see the pattern? I sold everything, and and decided to head off to Guatemala and just go on sabbatical and and do what I'm doing now. But very quickly. My drug addicted brother.
108
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: my mother, who's elderly and in bad health, and basically my family said, you're needed. Come home. So I cut that short and came home and
109
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: bought a day. Spa. The economy crashed unbeknownst to me while I was off
110
::not support a day. Spa. So by:111
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and my mom was in a state run nursing home because nobody could afford to help her pay for it. My brother died from his disease, anyway. So I've been using the law of attraction and mind over matter and all these things to try to fix everybody. And I didn't fix anyone.
112
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and but I
113
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: depleted my own resources and was left with nothing. And at that point I'm like, you know what
114
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I'm going to just give everybody over to their own power, and trust that they can figure it out, and I'm going to get take care of myself. And so I headed off into the mountains of East Tennessee, and eventually landed in a little cabin and spent 10 years there, and it didn't really mean for it to be 10 years. But that's how it worked out, and and that was the amount of time I needed to
115
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: come back to myself and figure out who I am, and you know, shed all of those layers of
116
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: obligation and responsibility, and conforming, and all of that, and
117
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and be equipped to come back out in the world again.
118
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: And now you're traveling the world. You've got so many cool things lined up.
119
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, I've I've been to 11 countries already.
120
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and you know my intention is to keep traveling until I fall in love with something or someone or some place. But at the same time a picture is forming in my mind of the little spiritual center that I want to create somewhere on this beautiful planet, and you know the service that I want to do, and, you know, bring women from all over the globe to experience nature and real food, and getting in touch with their bodies and getting in touch with their spirits, and, you know.
121
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: emerging with a better handle on their dreams.
122
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I love that. I'm over here thinking there's somebody that I need to connect you with in us in New Zealand.
123
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Okay, do it.
124
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Don't let me forget to tell you.
125
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Cause. I know you're going there. And yeah.
126
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I've said, that's my favorite. I'm always asking. Tell me who your friends are and where they are, and and I'll go see them. I can go anywhere I want in this world, and if you have recommendations, I love to hear them because it's fantastic. You know, I know they're really
127
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: go ahead. Sorry.
128
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I'll tell you. It's Carmel Riley, and she's an indigenous woman in New Zealand who is creating a
129
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: a retreat center for women to do exactly what you're talking about doing. She's she has it on. I think it's on native land. It's beautiful resort I've seen the mock-ups and everything that
130
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: they're working on. She's an incredible manifester. She's very much a woman who is like
131
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: moving into midlife, grabbing it with both horns and just going for it.
132
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: However.
133
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: She's an incredible woman, and I know that.
134
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Mallory.
135
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Of Youtube, Carmel, Riley.
136
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: She's no worry.
137
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Oh, that's that! I would love that so very much. That's 1 of my goals is to get to integrate or or to get to
138
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: meet and spend time with the indigenous people of New Zealand, and that's 1 of the reasons that I wanted to go to New Zealand is because they're one of the countries that still
139
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: their indigenous people still have a presence and a voice.
140
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yes.
141
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: And yeah, so yay, that's fantastic. I'm I'm very much looking forward to getting to know her. That's cool.
142
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I think I was gonna say something, but it's gone from my head. That's what happens. At 9, 58.
143
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Well.
144
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I'll ask you the question, then how what are you? How are you coaching people, and and how does all of that look? Is it like one on one? Is it group? Is it just, you know? How does it look.
145
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Currently, I am working towards a group coaching program and kind of letting that evolve as like a sacred circle. My current program is one on one. I like to call it a circle of 2,
146
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: right?
147
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: We it's and it's called the ancestral path, because it is about the ancestral way of being with your body. The primal lifestyle of you know how you eat and how you move, and intuition
148
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: with your body, and also ancient practices like magic.
149
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: and being in touch with the land and being grounded in your own energy and the wisdom of our ancestors that we've let go. We started thinking
150
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: up here, and everything below the earth is not respected. Our bodies are not respected, so the ancestral path brings all of that back together, and it incorporates all the all of the accumulation of the things that I've studied. I'm I studied with Mary Morrissey as a life mastery, consultant and dream coach, and
151
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I'm a primal health coach, and I'm a certified meditation teacher. And you know I'm in the study of Qigong. And so I have all of these different
152
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: aspects that I've studied and incorporated. And they're all
153
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: tools that we get to use in in this sacred circle. That's either a 6 week or a 12 week program, depending on
154
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: how much you want to
155
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: look ahead and how fast you want to go. And it's a a really lovely, beautiful, very custom program.
156
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Oh, I love that!
157
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Are you on substack.
158
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yes.
159
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: I thought we were connecting over there. And do you know what your sub stack link is?
160
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Every everyday magic.
161
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, that's the name of the publication.
162
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Everyday magic.
163
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Everyday. Magic. Yeah.
164
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Dot substack.com.
165
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: I believe you.
166
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: We'll go with that, and if it's not that, I'll make sure that I put it the right one in this in the show notes, but it's it's easy to find Lauren over on substack and to interact with her, and to watch her adventures and stuff because.
167
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, trying my best to be present as I can there, and and keep up with all the stories. And there's a whole lot of things that we, we do free things. We have a fearsome free women's circle on Wednesdays, that's, you know, just for us to get together and support each other, and you know, uplift and
168
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: magnify each other's brilliance. And you know I teach a little bit, but mostly it's we teach each other, and we support each other.
169
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: And what else was I going to say? I don't know. It's gone again.
170
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: You're good, and you do offer a free clarity call for people that they can talk, talk to you about whatever they've got going on in their life. And you guys can
171
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: feel each other's vibe and see if working with you is
172
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: the next step, or what what the next step really would be for them.
173
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yeah, exactly. And and it really is truly a clarity call, because a lot of times people are like, I, I know there's something I know that there's more than this. I know that I'm meant to
174
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: feel better, feel bigger, feel something different. And but.
175
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Feel, sometimes.
176
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Yes, yeah, and you can't quite put your finger on what it is. And that's 1 of the gifts that I have is helping you ask the right questions of yourself to, you know. Get to the heart of what your real desires are.
177
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: you know. Help! Help you be with your feelings in a way that is empowering, and you know, so we don't have to numb or avoid or distract anymore that we can be comfortable with ourselves in every moment.
178
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yes, that that's got to be helpful to so many people that are just like
179
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: they know there's more. But they really just don't know how to get to, the more they don't even know where the door is to, the more.
180
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Which one do I even knock on right.
181
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yeah.
182
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: Yeah.
183
::Jill Hart-The Coach's Alchemist: And people can find you@everydaymagic.substack.com. We're pretty sure we will be certain. Once once we publish this, and also@laurengfoster.com.
184
::Lauren Gabrielle Foster: Are you?
